Sibutramine is approved for use in the management of obesity, including weight loss and maintenance of weight loss. It is to be used in conjunction with a low-calorie diet.

DESCRIPTION
This drugs blocks the uptake of several neurotransmitters in the neurons, including norepinephrine and serotonin.
POTENTIAL SIDE EFFECTS
Headache, back pain, flu syndrome, abdominal pain, increased heart rate, migraine, anorexia, constipation, increased appetite, nausea, stomach upset, joint aches, dry mouth, insomnia, nervousness, anxiety, depression, runny nose, sore throat, sinusitis, increased cough, rash, painful menstruation.
CAUTIONS
- Use is not recommened during or within two weeks of MAO inhibitors. Should not be used concurrently with other centrallyacting appetite suppressants or drugs which increase serotonin levels.
- Inform your doctor is you have currently or a history of drug abuse or dependence, anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, uncontrolled or poorly controlled high blood pressure, congestive heart failure, irregular heart beats, and stroke.
- Inform your doctor if you have impaired kidney or liver function, bleeding tendencies or taking drugs which affect bleeding, seizure disorders, or narrow angle glaucoma.
- Initial and regular monitoring of blood pressure and pulse are needed to detect substantial increases in blood pressure.
FOOD INTERACTIONS
May be given without regard to meals
DOSAGE
10mg once a day. Dose may be titrated after four weeks to a total of 15mg once a day
