General Information
Baclofen - Generic Lioresal® is a muscle relaxant. It relieves spasms and
cramping of muscles in conditions such as multiple sclerosis.
This medicine is widely used in the treatment of several unpleasant muscle
symptoms (such as pain, spasm and stiffness), that might be triggered by several
muscle disorders such as multiple sclerosis.
Indications
Baclofen is a medicine that is usually prescribed to patients who are
experiencing some of multiple sclerosis’ unpleasant symptoms (muscle pain,
stiffness and spasm). However, this medicine could also be prescribed to treat
or to prevent some other medical conditions (disorders) that have not been
mentioned in this guide.
What should I tell my health care provider before I take Baclofen ?
- bleeding disorders
- diabetes
- mental illness
- kidney disease
- recent stroke
- seizures (convulsions)
- an unusual or allergic reaction to baclofen, other medicines, foods,
dyes, or preservatives
- pregnant or trying to get pregnant
- breast-feeding
Side Effects
- Drowsiness
- Disturbances of the gut, such as nausea, vomiting, constipation or
diarrhoea
- Lightheadedness
- Slow, shallow breathing (respiratory depression)
- Confusion
- Headache
- Difficulty sleeping (insomnia)
- Mood changes
- Muscle weakness
- Shaky movements and unsteady walk (ataxia)
- Tremor
- False perceptions of things that are not really there (hallucinations)
- Nightmares
- Rapid involuntary movements of the eyes (nystagmus)
- Dry mouth
- Increased need to pass urine
- Decreased blood pressure
- Fits (convulsions)
- Visual disturbances
