Description & Use
Premia (Prempro) is approved for women with an intact uterus for the treatment of moderate to severe hot flashes and night sweats associated with menopause, the treatment of vaginal dryness, and the prevention of postmenopausal osteoporosis. Premia (Prempro) is not approved and should not be used to prevent coronary heart disease. Premia (Prempro) is available in both a cyclical and continuous form.
Precautions when taking Premia (Prempro):
Premia (Prempro) should not be used under any of the following conditions or circumstances: known or suspected pregnancy (estrogen or progestin may cause fetal harm when administered to a pregnant woman); undiagnosed unusual vaginal bleeding; known or suspected breast cancer; known or suspected estrogen-sensitive tumors; active venous or arterial thromboembolism (e.g. stroke, blood clots, or heart attack), or a history of these conditions; liver dysfunction or disease. Premia (Prempro) should not be used in patients hypersensitive to its ingredients
Possible Side Effects of Premia (Prempro):
Because of the potential increased risk of heart attack, stroke, breast cancer, and blood clots, use of Premia (Prempro) should be limited to the shortest duration consistent with treatment goals and risks for the individual woman, and should be discussed with your physician regularly. If you have been prescribed combination estrogen/progestin therapy for the prevention of postmenopausal osteoporosis only, alternative treatments should be carefully considered. The most commonly reported side effects of Premia are postmenopausal bleeding, hair loss, and breast pain. |
